Biden says he doesn't care that Trump doesn't abide by the rules of democracy

President Joe Biden has downplayed concerns regarding former President Donald Trump’s refusal to "abide by the rules of the democracy we've established." Despite Trump’s history of contesting the 2020 election results, Biden remains committed to ensuring a smooth transition of power if Trump returns to office.

In an interview with MeidasTouch host Ben Meiselas, Biden confirmed he would attend Trump's inauguration, should Trump win the 2024 election. “Of course I am,” Biden stated. “The only president ever to avoid inauguration is the guy who’s about to be inaugurated,” he added, referring to Trump skipping Biden's inauguration in 2021.

When asked about inviting Trump to the Oval Office after the upcoming election, Biden emphasized the importance of maintaining democratic norms. “It’s who we are as a nation,” Biden said. “The fact that he doesn’t abide by the rules of the democracy we’ve established is not my concern. My job is to make a transition workable and available… and he’s beginning to adjust to it.”

Biden also highlighted Trump’s reluctant cooperation with certain elements of the transition process, noting Trump’s eventual compliance with FBI background checks for his cabinet appointees. However, Biden urged an end to political gamesmanship. “We can’t keep up this childish game of walking away when you don’t agree and not cooperating,” he stated, alluding to Trump’s previous refusal to concede the 2020 election.

As the 2024 election draws nearer, Biden’s remarks underscore his commitment to upholding democratic traditions, even in the face of resistance from his predecessor. His comments also serve as a call for greater cooperation and political maturity as the nation braces for another potentially contentious election cycle.
