Ellen DeGeneres is the next to leave the country, unable to tolerate Donald Trump

Ellen DeGeneres has reportedly left the United States for good, marking what some are calling the final chapter of her time in America. The former talk show host and her wife, actor Portia de Rossi, have put their Montecito, California, estate on the market and relocated to the Cotswolds, a picturesque rural region in the United Kingdom.

According to reports from The Wrap and TMZ, the couple’s departure is tied to Vice President Kamala Harris losing her bid for the presidency in the recent election. DeGeneres and de Rossi were vocal supporters of Harris, with DeGeneres publicly endorsing her and contributing to her campaign.

In her 2024 Netflix comedy special, DeGeneres touched on her fall from grace, referencing the allegations of a toxic work environment that overshadowed her daytime talk show’s final years. She described feeling like she had been “kicked out of show business” and even referred to herself as “the most hated person in America” at one point.

DeGeneres isn’t the only celebrity to leave the U.S. recently. Actor Eva Longoria, a fellow supporter of Kamala Harris, also shared her reasons for leaving California after spending most of her adult life there. Longoria revealed in a Marie Claire cover story that she and her family now split their time between Mexico and Spain. She cited issues like rising taxes, homelessness, and the effects of COVID-19 as factors in her decision.

“I feel like this chapter in my life is done now,” Longoria said, adding that the recent election reaffirmed her choice to leave. “I’m privileged; I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”

Both DeGeneres and Longoria’s moves reflect growing frustration among some public figures over political and social changes in the U.S. While DeGeneres embarks on a new life abroad, her departure underscores the larger cultural shifts that continue to divide opinions across the country.
