House Judiciary Committee Chair Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) has confirmed that the investigation into Hunter Biden's alleged criminal activities will continue after President Joe Biden departs the White House.
In a Thursday interview with Politico, Jordan outlined plans to delve deeper into the conduct of David Weiss, the special counsel assigned to the case, and address unanswered questions.
“We believe there’s more to uncover regarding David Weiss,” Jordan told Politico. “When we deposed him, he provided virtually no answers because the investigation was ongoing. There’s additional work that needs to be done.”
The decision to extend the investigation comes amid heightened scrutiny of President Biden’s last-minute pardon for his son, Hunter Biden. The sweeping pardon, which covers all crimes Hunter committed over a 10-year period, has sparked widespread criticism.
Jordan described the move as deeply unpopular with Americans, saying, “I didn’t agree with it, and I think many Americans didn’t either.” Despite his criticism, Jordan acknowledged that “the president has the authority to pardon anyone he chooses.”
The investigation into Hunter Biden began with allegations of unethical business dealings involving both Hunter and his uncle, James Biden. In testimony before Congress last year, the two were questioned about their international financial transactions and other alleged improprieties.
Republicans on the Judiciary Committee later accused both of perjury, claiming their testimonies included false statements. They have since recommended charges for lying under oath.
