Mayor Francesco Columbo, speaking to CNN, hinted at the political undertone of the campaign, saying, “Of course, we can’t specifically mention the name of one U.S. president who just got elected, but we all know that he’s the one from whom many Americans want to get away from now and leave the country.” The village has specifically tailored its project to cater to post-election relocation needs from the U.S.

The offer is designed to attract both adventurous buyers and digital nomads. Move-in ready homes are available for up to 100,000 euros, while those needing renovations are sold for just €1.

Additionally, select digital nomads may be offered free housing as part of the village’s effort to rejuvenate the area. “Americans will have a fast-track procedure,” said Mayor Columbo. “We are betting on them to help us revive the village; they are our winning card.”

Launched in August 2024, the project has already garnered significant interest, with over 18,000 applications submitted.

While the initiative alone may not entirely solve the issue of depopulation, Mayor Columbo sees it as a meaningful step. “It is a way to break down barriers, bring different knowledge and experiences to the community, and make the territory known,” he explained.

Ollolai offers more than just affordable homes—it promises an idyllic lifestyle. As part of Sardinia, the second-largest island in the Mediterranean, the village is nestled in pristine nature, surrounded by world-class cuisine, and steeped in ancient traditions.

It is also located within one of Earth’s Blue Zones, regions known for the longevity of their residents.
