Joe Rogan and Mel Gibson blast Newsom over fires: 'You've ruined this state'

Podcaster Joe Rogan and actor Mel Gibson recently criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom for his handling of wildfires that have ravaged the Golden State.

Appearing on Rogan’s podcast, Gibson expressed his frustration over Newsom’s unfulfilled promises, particularly regarding forest management.

“In 2019, I think Newsom said, ‘You know, I’m gonna take care of the forests and maintain the forests and do all that kinda stuff,’” Gibson stated during the podcast, which aired Thursday and was later highlighted by Mediaite. “He didn’t do anything.”

Rogan quickly agreed, adding, “On top [of] that, they cut the water off.”

“Yeah, that’s right, yeah,” Gibson replied. “It’s all funny. And then I think all our tax dollars probably went for Gavin’s hair gel. I don’t know but it’s like, you know, it’s sad, it’s like — the place is just on fire.”

The conversation grew more intense as Rogan doubled down on his criticisms of Newsom, accusing him of mismanaging the state.

“Well, the whole state is just so poorly managed. … It’s so frustrating and confusing, and then he gets on TV and pretends like everything’s great. ‘California’s the best, we have the best state, we have the most amazing economy,’ and like, you’re outta your f—ing mind dude, you’ve ruined this state,” Rogan said, openly mocking Newsom.

The recent wildfires, including the Pacific Palisades and Eaton fires, have caused widespread destruction in the Los Angeles area. Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Deanne Criswell reported on Thursday that over 1,000 structures have been either destroyed or severely damaged.

These fires have not only devastated communities but have also sparked political clashes. President-elect Donald Trump took aim at Newsom earlier this week, accusing him of failing to secure adequate water resources to mitigate the fires.

Trump claimed that the governor should have signed a declaration to ensure additional water supplies were directed to affected areas.

In response, Newsom defended his actions during an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Wednesday. “People are literally fleeing,” Newsom said. “People have lost their lives. Kids lost their schools, families completely torn asunder, churches burned down.”

The governor accused Trump of politicizing the tragedy, stating, “This guy wanted to politicize it. I have a lot of thoughts, and I know what I want to say. I won’t.”

As California continues to battle these catastrophic wildfires, tensions between state and federal leadership show no signs of easing.

Residents, meanwhile, are left grappling with the devastating toll these disasters have taken on their homes and communities.
