MSNBC’s Symone Sanders-Townsend strongly criticized President-elect Donald Trump’s recent event at his Mar-a-Lago estate, which featured a documentary about John Eastman, a key figure in Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

Speaking on her show The Weekend on Sunday, Sanders-Townsend called the gathering “sickening” and condemned Trump’s actions.

“This is sickening. I am sick,” Sanders-Townsend declared in a clip highlighted by Mediaite. She further expressed outrage, stating, “What Donald Trump did last night is a disgrace to this country. It is a disgrace to the Constitution.”

The Saturday event included prominent figures such as Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Representative Mike Waltz (R-Fla.), and Scott Bessent, a Trump administration pick.

Trump took the opportunity to praise Meloni, calling her “a fantastic woman” and acknowledging her rising influence in Europe.

“This is very exciting. I’m here with a fantastic woman, the prime minister of Italy,” Trump said. “She’s really taken Europe by storm, and everyone else, and we’re just having dinner tonight.”

However, the presence of John Eastman and the focus of the event drew significant backlash. Eastman, a lawyer for Trump, played a central role in the legal strategy to overturn the 2020 election results.

His plan involved using slates of alternate electors to sway key states in Trump’s favor and pressuring former Vice President Mike Pence to replace legitimate electors with fake ones. Eastman’s controversial memos and actions have been widely criticized as attempts to subvert the democratic process.

During her segment, Sanders-Townsend emphasized the implications of the event, stating, “They’re letting you know where their values are, what they think, and frankly, that if the president-elect was not successful in this last election, they would have done it again.”

She argued that the event not only celebrated unconstitutional actions but also signaled the continued threat to democratic principles.

The documentary featured at the event, centered on Eastman’s role and actions, was seen by critics as an attempt to legitimize Trump’s efforts to undermine the 2020 election results.

Sanders-Townsend’s comments reflect growing concerns among political commentators and legal experts about Trump’s alignment with individuals like Eastman, who have openly challenged the rule of law.

The 'New Middle East' That Awaits Donald Trump

The event at Mar-a-Lago has added fuel to ongoing debates about Trump’s commitment to democratic values as he prepares to take office. Critics argue that hosting such an event signals a disregard for constitutional norms and further polarizes the political landscape.

As Trump faces mounting criticism, Sanders-Townsend’s remarks underscore the deep divisions over his leadership style and his administration’s priorities.

For many, the Mar-a-Lago event serves as a stark reminder of the contentious legacy of Trump’s first term and the controversies that continue to define his political career.
