Trump appears to blame immigration for New Orleans attack by U.S. citizen - The Washington Post

President-elect Donald Trump has blamed the Biden administration’s immigration policies for recent attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas, asserting that the southern border’s state has contributed to a rise in violent crime.

Trump’s criticism comes as investigations into both incidents continue.

In New Orleans, a man identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a pickup truck into a crowd, killing at least 15 people. Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas, reportedly had an ISIS flag attached to the trailer hitch of the rented truck used in the attack.

The FBI is investigating Jabbar’s potential ties to extremist organizations.

Meanwhile, in Las Vegas, a Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump International Hotel involved firework mortars and camp fuel canisters. The suspect, according to local reports, was an Army veteran from Colorado.

Despite the emerging details, Trump took to Truth Social to link the incidents to border security, blaming President Biden's policies for the violence.

Trump slams border over New Orleans attack, despite US citizen suspect

“With the Biden ‘Open Border’s Policy,’ I said, many times during Rallies, and elsewhere, that Radical Islamic Terrorism, and other forms of violent crime, will become so bad in America that it will become hard to even imagine or believe,” Trump wrote.

“That time has come, only worse than ever imagined. Joe Biden is the WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF AMERICA, A COMPLETE AND TOTAL DISASTER.”

He added that Biden’s administration and its allies have caused irreversible damage to the country. Trump also described the attacks as evidence of a broader national decline, claiming, “Our Country is a disaster, a laughing stock all over the World! This is what happens when you have OPEN BORDERS, with weak, ineffective, and virtually nonexistent leadership.”

Trump’s statement came after reports revealed that Jabbar had posted videos on social media hours before the attack in New Orleans. The content allegedly indicated that he was inspired by ISIS and harbored violent intentions.

In remarks on Wednesday, President Biden addressed Jabbar’s motivations, acknowledging his social media posts and describing the attack as an act of terrorism.

The president-elect, however, doubled down on his accusations, criticizing federal agencies like the DOJ and FBI for prioritizing investigations against him instead of addressing national security threats.

Donald Trump uses New Orleans attack to push security and border agenda

“They are incompetent and corrupt, having spent all of their waking hours unlawfully attacking their political opponent, ME, rather than focusing on protecting Americans from the outside and inside violent SCUM that has infiltrated all aspects of our government, and our Nation itself,” Trump wrote.

He also called on the CIA to intervene urgently. “The CIA must get involved, NOW, before it is too late,” Trump added. “The USA is breaking down — A violent erosion of Safety, National Security, and Democracy is taking place all across our Nation.”

Trump concluded his late-night post with, “See you on January 20th,” referencing the day of his inauguration.

Hours earlier, he had posted a similar message during his campaign, emphasizing the need for stricter immigration policies but refraining from commenting directly on Jabbar’s U.S. citizenship.

While some have speculated that Jabbar was not a citizen, the FBI confirmed his citizenship status as part of its ongoing investigation.

The incident has reignited debates about the intersection of immigration, national security, and domestic terrorism.

The attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas have left many questioning the adequacy of current policies to address such threats.

As Trump prepares to take office, his administration will likely face increased pressure to act on its promises of stricter border controls and enhanced national security measures.
